CEO Mavin records, Don Jazzy, has again proved his genius by revealing earlier today, he just signed former Triple MG star, Iyanya.

Speaking on the deal via a statement, the ace producer attributed it to Iyanya’s “versatility” saying:

“From the first time I stepped into the studio with him, there was an instant chemistry and energy. He is an amazing talent and he has great musical versatility.

The new deal came as a result of Iyanya, signing a management deal with Temple Management, a creative talent agency, whose sole aim is to aid the singer in launching a new phase in his career.

Speaking on the new record deal, Iyanyasaid:

“I am at a decision-making curve in my music career where I have to make the right professional and creative decisions. At this point, I realised the need to put in solid structures in place to move to the next level of my career.

Tokyo Thrift: Sony's gorgeous VAIO P was stunningly unusable

Never have I wanted a computer as much as the Sony VAIO P.

Never have I been so wrong.

Sony introduced the VAIO P at CES 2009, the height of the netbook boom, and its stunning design soared high above all competitors racing to the bottom. Look at your laptop; now imagine that the bottom half was nothing but the keyboard, and the top half was dominated by an ultrawide high-resolution screen. That's the VAIO P. It is screamingly beautiful even today.

THE PROBLEM WITH THE VAIO P IS THAT IT'S A TERRIBLE LAPTOP

The model I acquired this year is the VGN-P50. It has a 1.33GHz Atom processor, an 8-inch 1600 x 768 display, 1GB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, and ran Windows XP out of the box. It came in a lovely shade of crimson, and was released in Japan in June 2009 for 85,000 yen, or about $850. Sony called it a "pocket style PC" rather than a netbook — it'd be pretty hard to fit this in any pocket unless you were dressed for a skiing trip, but it's certainly smaller than the vast majority of full Windows laptops you're ever likely to see.

The problem with the VAIO P is that it's a terrible laptop. Its screen, though technically great for the time, actually suffers for being too sharp; at native resolution everything is tiny, and if you scale up you have almost no screen space to work with. Its keyboard is about as good as an average iPad Bluetooth attachment, which is to say not at all. And its little mouse nub gallantly fails to attain anything approaching ThinkPad TrackPoint levels of precision.

Worse, the VAIO P is slow even by 2009 netbook standards. You'll often have to wait seconds before text input is registered — I was often unsure whether my problems were caused by the pokey keyboard or plodding processor. At 626g and 19.8mm thick, the VAIO P's extreme portability meant it could have been be forgiven some of its compromises. But the battery barely manages two hours, even in reviews of brand-new models from the time, meaning it's hard for me to imagine the situation in which I'd want to take this along.

Verge editor-in-chief Nilay Patel held a deep yearning for the VAIO P, too, and also got around to buying one earlier this year, so I figured I should ask him if his thoughts matched mine. They did. "I wanted to love this thing so badly but nothing about this hardware is actually good," he told me. "At least it's bright pink." So that's that.

"I WANTED TO LOVE THIS THING SO BADLY BUT NOTHING ABOUT THIS HARDWARE IS ACTUALLY GOOD."

Things improved a little when I installed Cloudready, a free program that essentially lets you turn old PCs into Chromebooks through a modified version of Chromium. But not by much. While the VAIO P performed a little better at basic web browsing, the screen was still impractical and battery life was still unworkable. And forget about YouTube.

And that's the thing about the VAIO P — I kind of wish Sony would bring the form factor back with modern technology, because you could do a lot more justice to the concept in this age of Chromebooks and mobile devices. The screen could be more scalable, battery life wouldn't be an issue, performance would be fine. But would it be that much better than just using a big phone in landscape mode, let alone something like an iPad mini? Gorgeous as it was and is, the VAIO P stands as testament to Sony's predilection for wild ambition and tragic folly, and it's a sign of just how far we've come.

It does look good on my shelf, though.

Andrew Liptak: one of the most popular horror books of the year is Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt, gathering acclaim from authors like Stephen King and George R.R. Martin. The town has taken extreme measures to cope, becoming a surveillance state to better track the apparition — and to make sure the town’s residents keep in line.

What’s really appealing to me about this book is how it blends an Upstate New York brand of Gothic horror with modern day technology.

Megan Farokhmanesh: I find myself picking up one of his books every year around this time. In the wake of the great clown panic of 2016, there is no better time than now to revisit Stephen King’s It. The novel, published in 1986, introduced a shapeshifting evil that favored the form of a clown. Said clown uses the power of fear and phobia to exploit Its victims’ weaknesses and make their deaths (or psychological torture) all the more unsettling. It’s not just that It will kill you; It wants to feed on your fear with the same eagerness I reserve for free food.

Andrew: Speaking of Stephen King, his son, author Joe Hill, released his latest novel The Fireman in May, and it’s a really fantastic read. This book feels like the Stephen King-ieset of all Hill’s novels (Heart Shaped Box, Horns andNOS4A2 are all excellent and you should pick them up). In The Fireman, a fungus is sweeping over America, one that causes its victims to spontaneously combust. A nurse, Harper Grayson, flees to a refuge after contracting Dragonscale, hoping to survive long enough to give birth to her child.

Hill’s playing with a bunch of things: how communities can turn evil when driven by fear, how small-town dictators can feed of local anxieties, and lots of weird mind-meldy stuff. It feels especially relevant this year.

Speaking of small-town horror, there’s a new graphic novel adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s classic short story The Lottery. Miles Hyman is Jackson’s grandson and has filled this book with some beautiful illustrations. If you’ve never come across it, this is a good introduction to one of the creepiest short stories ever written.

Megan: Ooh, Shirley Jackson! I’m a fan of The Haunting of Hill House. There’ve been a couple movies inspired by the book, but we don’t speak of them. They Are Bad. The novel was published back in 1959, but I still really dig the premise: creepy old mansion, oddball characters, ghostly flair. The book centers around four characters who opt to live in an old mansion for the summer and suss out paranormal activity. Jackson plays with the traditional idea of bad things happening in old houses, but it also makes you skeptical of trusting the characters.

Which brings me to my next book, by John Ajvide Lindqvist: Let the Right One.It follows a young, bullied boy named Oskar who meets a child vampire, Eli. I’m not usually into books that follow kids because I’m a cantankerous grump, but I like the unusual best friendship that blooms between the two. Eli and Oskar, these darling little weirdos, both need companionship and and help. It’s a dark story with a lot of murder that’s ... well, not really what I’d call a feel-good time, but an entertaining one.

Andrew: Another book that I’ve been excited to dig into is Certain Dark Thingsby Silvia Moreno-Garcia, one of the books that I dropped into our October New Adventures list earlier this month. Moreno-Garcia takes us to Mexico City, where a vampire named Alt is on the run from a rival clan and falls for a street kid named Domingo. As the turf war between narco-Vampire clans heats up, Ana, a Mexico City cop finds herself in the midst of this bewildering mess. Admittedly, Vampire novels are something that’s easy to roll your eyes at, but Moreno-Garcia has put together an intriguing story seeped in the history of Mexico City along with a vividly imagined trio of characters.

If you like vampires, a really fun, bite-sized read is Nightshades by Melissa F. Olson, which puts another modern spin on the creatures. Vampires are walking around, a branch of the FBI is tasked with investigating them, and a bunch of people die. It’s a book that’s great for the train or plane, because it’s fun, engaging, and short, coming in under 200 pages.

Megan: Veering far away from vampire fiction for a moment — if I had my way, my recommendation list would just beThe Amityville Horror by Jay Anson repeated 12 times. I’m a sucker for true (or “true”) stories, and this book about a family moving into a house post-mass murder is my personal chef’s kiss. They stayed only 28 days, and their account includes nightmares, unexplained incidents, physical ailments, kids acting creepy, and so much more. It gives me cold sweats just thinking about it.

Andrew: The Amityville Horror figured in prominently in Paul Tremblay’s Head Full of Ghosts last year, which I recommend picking up. His latest novelDisappearance at Devil’s Rock is one that I found particularly horrifying as a parent: A mother, Elizabeth Sanderson, learns that her teenage son Tommy has vanished in a local park. The police begin a massive search for the boy and the media descend on the town, and she begins to think that she’s seeing traces of Tommy around the house. Pages from his diary mysteriously appear. What she isn’t prepared for is what she begins to learn about her son, and what events might have led to his disappearance.

I picked up both books this year and blew right through them. Tremblay’s an author who is deeply aware of how the genre works, and his books do a great job slowly cranking up the temperature. The books get more and more unsettling as you turn the pages, but you can’t look away.

Megan: What is it about family stories that makes horror so much more interesting? I’m really in love with Mark Z. Danielewski‘s House of Leaves. It’s a little tough to describe because it’s kind of story-in-a-story; the book follows a struggling tattoo parlor employee who finds an academic account of a fictional documentary. The Navidson Record, the doc in question, is really what makes this one compelling. The family it focuses on learns that their house grows and shrinks at will, adding new terrifying new rooms. What follows is partly an examination of how their relationships are impacted, and partly an exploration of this strange space. I’m a sucker for this book for many reasons, but I above all love how it presents its words. Sentences run off the page, carry different highlighted words, and generally do interesting things with typography that make reading feel like making a discovery.

Watch Falz x Simi Introduce “Chemistry” EP To Fans At Industry Nite

Falz and Simi just put out their joint EP project titled “Chemistry”.

The collaborative effort was unveiled to fans and music lovers at this week’s edition of Industry Nite, which held at Hardrock Cafe in Lagos. Falz and Simi who’s effective musical chemistry have given rise to dating rumours, were decked in stylish denim pieces – a new school fashion order influenced by street culture.

This may be the USB-C hub we've been waiting for 20 The Arc Hub

Third-party USB-C hubs are notoriously a disaster. They overheat, are missing crucial ports, or the ports they have are underpowered, and on many of the ones we’ve tested, the SD card readers consistently fail to work.. If you can't tell, I own a 12-inch MacBook, and I, along with a few other Verge coworkers who own the laptop have used just about every viable USB-C hub to date, with less than stellar results.

Apple's multiport adapter is the best option — but only by default. It works fine, but only has three ports, no SD card reader, no MiniDisplay port, and no extra USB-C ports.  It's not exactly pushing the world of USB-C peripherals forward and its overpriced for what it offers. But! We may finally have a decent option hitting the market soon that could satisfy everyone's USB-C needs.

The Arc Hub, built by Bourge Design, has the potential to be the USB-C hub I've been waiting for. It features seven ports in total: two USB-C ports with pass-through charging, two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port, one MiniDisplay Port, and an SD card reader packed into a round aluminum enclosure with chamfered edges and a convex glass covering. It will support 4K and ultrawide displays over the HDMi port. The USB-C ports can also push displays if needed, as they both support USB-C Gen 2 (Thunderbolt 3). And transfer speeds from an external hard drive using the USB 3.0 port come in at 115Mbps.

Bourge Design has checked two of the three boxes to make a decent USB-C hub: have all of the necessary ports, and make it look good. The third has to do with the quality of the ports within that beautiful casing, and that's where most of the problems begin and end. But according to Brian Fernandez, co-founder of Bourge Deisgn, the Arc Hub will be different.

Fernandez says the company has been working to make the Arc Hub resilient to the quality issues that has rendered other USB-C Hubs useless. The company has sourced high-quality parts and chipsets — which is reflected in the $105 price tag — and has done extensive 12-hour long stress tests combining SD card and hard drive file transfers, external monitors, and charging multiple devices to make sure the ports don't fail under load. According to Fernandez, no issues have been encountered yet. The team is working on supporting 4K displays over the MiniDisplay port as well, according to Fernandez.

Everything is pointing to the Arc Hub being the answer to the USB-C hub issue, but we won't know how good it really is until we get our hands on one. Bourge Design says the Arc Hub will ship in January, but if you're interested you can pre-order one today for $105.

The new MacBook Pro looks and feels so good it's unreal

The new MacBook Pro is here — literally available for preorder today — and I’ve just tried it. The best thing I can say about is simple: everything about it looks and feels so good I almost didn’t believe it.

We’ll start with the marquee feature, theTouch Bar. What you might not have gathered from the keynote is that it has a matte finish, which makes the buttons on it somehow feel a little more physical. It’s bright, but not so bright that it distracts — it seems to be about on par with the brightness of the backlit keyboard.

THE TOUCH BAR LOOKS REALLY GOOD, THE SCREEN LOOKS INCREDIBLE

I have questions about whether or not all these changing function buttons will be comprehensible, but in my brief time with them they all made sense to me. There’s no haptic feedback on them, unfortunately, but obviously they all worked perfectly. That included quickly applying filters in Photos and sorting emails in Mail.

I also rearranged buttons (you can find the option in a menu) and it worked, well, as advertised. What’s neat about dragging buttons down from the screen to the Touch Bar is that you can keep moving them with the mouse on the second screen.

The most important button when you've got music playing is the "Play/Pause" button, at least in my humble opinion. And when the Touch Bar is busy being used for application-specific stuff, it's stone-cold not there. But Apple added a more permanent music options button over on the right, so you can always tap it to get to your music transport controls.

One last neat thing on the Touch Bar: you can tap-and-hold on a bunch of buttons to get to functions faster. Long-press on Reply and you can slide over to Reply-All. Same for other buttons like volume control.

Touch ID worked — though of course I couldn't try it myself. I'm told the MacBook Pro now automatically powers on when you open it and that holding down the Touch ID button will turn the computer off (the Apple rep here didn't want to show me that, though).

YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE THE KEYBOARD, BUT I DO

The keyboard is almost identical to the butterfly keyboard found on the tiny MacBook. That’s going to cause some people to grind their teeth, but I think it’s great and easy to type on — and I do think the keys might have sightly better travel, but don’t hold me to that. In any case, I expect that this will be a sore spot for some people.

The trackpad is absolutely massive, so much so that Apple had better make sure it has its palm-rejection software perfect, because your palms are going to be resting on this thing all the time. The screen is, of course, beautiful — and it's funny to note that a beautiful Retina Display is basically table stakes now.

As for weight, well, it feels like a three-pound laptop. It's certainly not impossibly light like the MacBook, but it feels a fair bit lighter than any previous MacBook Pro. It makes me realize that a lot of what makes a laptop feel lighter than it is is the wedge shape, which this device obviously doesn't have. What it does seem to have are vents on both the left and right on the bottom — they're part of Apple's new thermal management system.

Yes, there is a regular 3.5mm headphone jack.

You'll also find 4 Thunderbolt / USB-C ports. This is another thing that's likely to cause people some consternation — but I'm here to tell you that everything is going to be fine. Now that Apple is selling a whole series of laptops that only use USB-C, the number of cables and accessories is going to skyrocket. Those dongles are going to be annoying, yes, but way less annoying than they are with the iPhone 7 — most people I know carry a laptop around in a bag, after all, and bags have pockets.

Getting down to hard numbers, the 13-inch model starts at $1,499 for a basic model with no Touch Bar, two USB-C ports, a 2.0GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, and a 256GB SSD. Go up to $1,799, and you add in the Touch Bar, two more USB-C ports, and a 2.9GHz Core i5 processor, with the 13-inch model topping out at $2,899 for a maximum spec of a 3.3GHz dual-core i7, 1TB SSD, and 16GB of RAM.

All of the 15-inch models include the Touch Bar, and start at $2,399 for the base 2.6GHz quad-core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, and an 2GB AMD Radeon Pro 450 graphics card. Prices max out at a whopping $4,299 for the most powerful MacBook Pro that Apple will sell you, with a 2.9GHz quad-core i7, 2TB SSD for storage, 4GB Radeon Pro 460, and 16GB of RAM.

The budget 13-inch model is available for purchase today to ship sometime next week, while the Touch Bar models can be ordered now but won’t ship until later in November.

Apple in Trouble!!! iPhone 7 goes up in flames.

Wahala have come for Apple o as an Australian man has claimes that his iPhone 7 caught fire while he left it inside his car as he went surfing. The Australian man, Mat Jones who is an Australian surfing instructor bought his iPhone 7 just a week before and he said he left it under a pair of pants in his car when he went for surfing lesson, only for him to come back and discover a burnt iPhone 7 and a scorched car interior.

According to reports, the iPhone caught fire just in the same manner as the Galaxy Note 7. Mat Jones came back from surfing lesson to find his car windows blackened and upon opening the door, the interior was on fire. In a correspondence with 7 news, a local news station, Jones said he had no doubt that the iPhone 7 was the source of the fire. According to him, he found ash fallling out as he unwrapped the pants, finding the iPhone 7 just melting inside of it. However, Apple is conducting an investigation about the incident. It is not certain that the iPhone 7 caused the fire except we want to count on Jones’ words. If the iPhone 7 is discovered to be the cause, then Apple needs to find a way to resolve that problem ASAP.

Samsung’s Note 7 nightmare is the worst that has happened yet and if their rival suffers the same fate, then something is wrong somewhere. Perhaps the witches and wizards are against them. Lol!
